The Infinite Dividend: The WPA's Legacy and the 2025 Funding Fight

Ninety years on, nearly everyone still uses something the WPA built, from its roads and LaGuardia to the school lunch line it invented. The episode traces the legacy through Federal One's heirs, the NEA, NEH and library and museum agencies, and the 2025-26 fight over funding them, which Congress declined to end and a court reversed.

Still debated

The NEA, NEH and IMLS are heirs built on the precedent Federal One set, not literal continuations of the WPA. The IMLS appropriation is reported as roughly $292 to $295 million, and litigation over the executive orders was not settled by one year's funding.
